Howard Runs for Second Term as State Representative STONINGTON- With a strong record of leadership, coalition building, and community involvement, State Rep. Greg Howard announced he has filed to run for a second term representing Stonington and North Stonington, and the newly drawn portion of Ledyard added by the Connecticut Reapportionment Committee. Rep. Howard who is serving his first term in the Connecticut General Assembly representing the 43rd House District and has been recognized by House leadership by being the only freshman named a ranking member of a legislative committee, the Public Safety and Security committee. In addition to Public Safety, Greg also sits on the budget-writing Appropriations Committee and the Judiciary Committee. In 2021, Rep. Howard became the leading voice for changing the state’s quarantine policies which were forcing healthy children to stay home and miss school, by championing new policies based on data from Massachusetts’s Test and Stay policy. “In my first term, I have made it a point to work across party lines, creating bi-partisan relationships that benefits my constituents and helps get critical legislation passed by the General Assembly. But I also know sometimes, I must represent and vote my district and not be beholden to a political party,” said Rep. Howard. “But there is a lot more we can do and I look forward to making sure our state government is working for the people, not against them.” Howard highlighted his first term record as a state legislator:
While Rep. Howard says he plans to push for reforms to our state justice system and public safety, he also wants the legislature to focus on our children. "As the Covid pandemic winds down, there are tremendous challenges ahead. We need to make sure the thousands of children who might be struggling with achievement get the assist they need so that gap doesn’t increase or they slip through the cracks,” said Rep. Howard. “Additionally, we also must look to help state businesses that were hit hardest due to the pandemic.” Howard is a 20-year veteran of the Stonington Police Department currently serving as a detective for the force. Greg has been married to his wife Shana since 2008 and they have two sons.
